Change, of any kind, can be scary. Especially when it is something that affects your everyday life and affects your job. For teachers, classrooms and schools are changing. Technology is becoming more advanced and even more of a part of today’s society. As this is happening, technology is being adopted into the classroom at high rates. Things like 1:1 devices, tablets, and smart boards are a common occurrence. The newness of all this technology can be a little scary and overwhelming, but with some help, technology can be embraced in the classroom.

Take it Slow

When you are adapting to having new technology in the classroom, it is important to take it slow. Don’t overwhelm yourself. Instead of just trying to use the piece of technology in full on the first day, take some time to learn about it. Look at the resources that the company has to offer and take time to go through them. As you are looking through the resources, explore the technology's functions. It is important to take things slow when learning something new so you don’t get overwhelmed and end up not using the new piece of tech.

Consult with Your Fellow Teachers

If you are getting a new piece of tech in your classroom, there is a good probability that your fellow teachers at your school are getting that new piece of tech as well. Consult with the teachers that are also using this new gadget. Learn together and help each other figure out issues and fix them.

Rely on Your Tech Coach

If your school has a tech coach, make sure to use them! They are there to help you. Your tech coach can help you get started with the new piece of tech and can also help you troubleshoot any issues you are having with it. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. The point of getting technology in the classroom is being able to actually use it.

Don’t Be Afraid

Yes, adding new technology to the classroom can be scary but it doesn’t have to be so scary that it stops you from actually embracing it and adapting that piece of tech in your classroom. Be confident and use the resources around you to help you. Adding tech to your classroom helps improve not only your teaching experience but your students’ learning experience as well.
